In 1993 I had the opportunity to purchase some Frozen Semen from a top winning dog in England, Eng. Ch. Hot Pursuit. I saw a Video of Eng. Ch. Hot Pursuit winning his 10 CC’s at the various Shows in England and I already knew so much about his Sire Eng. Ch. Constones Yer Man who held the Breed Record in England for many years. So I was very keen.
Professor Mortimer at the University of Leicester in England performed the task and the Frozen Semen was sent here to South Australia and arrived just in time to be put to one of my top Bitches, Ch. Waurstafford Cadhla. After a week of blood tests and another week of daily blood tests and smear tests to get the ovulation timing right. Dr. Chris Arnold of Gawler opened Cadhla up and inserted the 4 Straws of Semen into her Uterine Horns. After which he duly handed me back the empty Straws with Eng. Ch. Hot Pursuit printed on each one. Needless to say, they will never be thrown away. So the day before Cadhla was due, to be on the safe side a Caesarean Section was performed and on the 17th January 1994, young WAURSTAFFORD LEICESTER was delivered by Dr. Arnold. I was unable to take Cadhla to Gawler myself, so two of my friends Karen Edwards and Nadine Serdarovic took her and watched the operation. Apparently when Dr. Arnold took him out, he looked in his mouth and said “no cleft palate’ looked at the other end ‘no screw tail, WELCOME TO THE WORLD LITTLE BOY”. Those wonderful words. Leicester was the first Staffordshire Bull Terrier to be born from Imported Frozen Semen in Australia. Mrs. Yvonne Reeder of the famous Gamester line in N.S.W. rang me at work to inform me of this and to offer her congratulations. A write up was also put in the NSW Staffordshire Bull Terrier Club Magazine. No prizes for guessing why the boy was called LEICESTER. |
